About Chronicling Cattle

000955990010.jpg

Cows, buffalo, oxen, and other ungulates once roamed Singapore as part of our daily domestic landscape, providing labour and working alongside people. As the city went through rapid development, the presence of cattle has disappeared, though traces of them remain in its streets, culture and memories.

Chronicling Cattle is a digital project that farms memories, experiences and human connections with cattle within Singapore through images, anecdotes and histories.

About the artist:

This project was produced by visual artist Divaagar.  In his practice, he explores narratives through the lenses of people, identities and spaces.

He is a Taurus, an enthusiast of cattle, and while he is lactose intolerant, he still enjoys dairy.

Acknowledgments

Chronicling Cattle would not have come into fruition without its contributors, from the kind people who have shared their stories, artists who have shared their processes and friends who have contributed their time. We would also like to thank Diana Rahim for editing our stories and Kamini Ramachandran for guiding this project.

Chronicling Cattle was conceived through NAC Community Arts Residency, an initiative by National Arts Council Singapore, in collaboration with Indian Heritage Centre.
